Sweet 16!
When you're not ready to do the whole car and license thing on your kid's 16th birthday, it gets a little trickier to think of something that will create memories that stand the test of time. After all, a 16th birthday is a very special milestone in a girl's life and should be celebrated as such.
I'm very fortunate that I have raised 4 wonderful, humble, and modest children, and my oldest in particular doesn't ask much at all. So she chose to spend her special day with her best friend.
We originally planned on taking the girls to Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg for a day of shopping, hanging out, and eating some yummy goodies... But, Mother Nature was not a happy camper that day, and it poured NON-STOP.
So, instead we ended up in the Knoxville area. The girls did their shopping at the West Town Mall, and then we ate lunch at the Cheesecake Factory. After all, what could be yummier than CHEESECAKE?
After our meal, we got the waiter in on the deal, and he brought Bear a VERY special dessert.

Fruit & Berry Patch - Knoxville, TN
The Fruit & Berry Patch in Knoxville, Tennessee is a fun little place.
If you go during the week, you just drive your own vehicle around through their multiple orchards to hand-pick the seasonal fruit of your choice.
If you attend on the weekend or with a large group, they operate hay rides into the orchards throughout the day.
We tend to visit most frequently during fall. We go for the amazing selection of pumpkins and apples. And that's when you can check out the corn maze. It's small, and the kids can run right through it in just a few minutes, but, hey, it's FREE!
The prices on pumpkins can run a little higher than what you'll find in, say, Walmart, but the range of varieties and sizes is unparalleled.
Inside their store, so much fun can be had!
One year, we bought 3 of each kind of apple they sold, and went home and had an "Apple Tasting" where we tried a slice of each and compared taste and texture to figure out which ones were our favorites. There were about two dozen different kinds from which to choose!
They have hot and cold cider, fruit slushies in 3 different flavors, fried pies, and a variety of other baked goods and warm and cold drinks.

Sand and Water Toys - Cudjoe Key, FL
When we travel, we tend to pack a LOT of different activities into each day. We run from sun up to sun down, taking in as much as we can. So, I think it is important to balance that out with the occasional "off day" or else, you get vacation burnout. And then you end up needing a vacation from your vacation.
Many of our vacations begin and end with lots of drive time, staying in a different hotel every night for a week or so. But when we get in or near our final destination, we try to rent a house, a cottage, a condo, or something of the like for a few weeks, up to a few months.
For this particular trip, this was our first morning waking up in our cottage in the Florida Keys, and we voted to spend the day just chilling on the amazing Atlantic-side property. A beautiful pool, tons of sand toys, and the Cudjoe Bay, all at our beck and call.
