Swimming, Surfing, and Snorkeling in Bahia Honda State Park - Big Pine Key, FL
One of our favorite places on the planet, Bahia Honda State Park just north of Big Pine Key, Florida.
The water is perfectly clear and super shallow during either tide, up to about 100 feet out from shore. And there is very little wake, if any at all. So, basically, it's a GREAT area for kids to play. It''s like a giant bathtub of clear, warm water. Little ones can swim, boogie board, or snorkel in the gentle water without fear of getting knocked over by unrelenting waves.
Grown ups can just lounge in the water in relax. Many people will literally set their beach chairs and umbrellas in the water and spend the afternoon in total relaxation.

There are several beaches in Bahia Honda, and we've tried most of them. Some of them have more of a problem with plant debris, depending on the tide, but some are perfectly clear with no debris at all.
Inside the state park, you can rent kayaks and other equipment. There is a visitor center with exhibits, and even a boat dock, and cafe. Be sure to check out the Butterfly Gardens and climb the remains of the Old Bahia Honda Bridge.
We will have several albums from Bahia Honda. This one is just our first day here.
